Facebook is planning to decrease the amount of media and public content in news feeds in favour of posts from families and friends to make it more relevant for users and for them to interact more using the social media platform. This is based on feedback that many users are becoming more focused on reading rather than interacting with the platform.

While this is a positive move for a lot of social media users more interested in using Facebook as a social networking tool as it originally was, there will obviously need to be a balance of commercial viability for organisations wanting to use it as an effective interaction and promotional platform.

(And if you aren’t friends with Stellar on Facebook yet – here’s your chance.)

Kodak’s crypto-photography innovations

A new commercial application of blockchain comes to the fray

Kodak and WENN Digital have announced a partnership to launch two blockchain-based innovations for photographers – the KODAKOne platform for image rights management for licensing, and KODAKCoin, a cryptocurrency focused on photographers receiving payments immediately upon sale.

With all the hype surrounding blockchain and Bitcoin, it will be interesting to see how many companies take on this approach – more importantly, which will have sustainable business models, and which will just be hype?

Hydrogen Hyundai tests the waters in Australia

Another application of an alternative fuel opportunity comes to market

The Hyundai Nexo Hydrogen-powered car is coming to Australia in late 2018 or early 2019. The first organisation to trial the car in Australia will be the ACT Government, which has purchased 20 units as part of a $23m renewable fuels test program. Hyundai claims the car to have a driving range of up to 800km. The only refueling point in Australia at this point is at Hyundai’s Sydney head office.

It's relatively early days in the launch of hydrogen-powered cars, but will be interesting to see how this develops amongst a growing interest in vehicles powered by alternative fuels. As with our post last month about driverless public transport, it’s likely that wider adoption of this technology is on the longer-term horizon.
