Book a bus

Sydneysiders will soon be able to book bus seats using an app

Public transport group Transit Systems will launch on-demand buses in Sydney in late November. Using an app made by transport technology company Bridj, customers can book seats and track their bus in real-time. The technology will pool passengers from similar locations and travel requirements, along with providing instructions for where to walk to the closest pick-up location. The technology then creates a route dynamically and only stops as required, with the potential for significant travel time savings.

Promising payments platform

Simplified banking payments platform coming to Australia in early 2018

The New Payments Platform (NPP) is a $1 billion project that will allow customers of different banks to send payments to each other and arrange payments using their mobile phone number instead of an account number/BSB. The four major banks and 50 other institutions are expected to join the launch. It will be rolled out to the public after Australia Day 2018.

Regulatory robot becomes a reality

An AI-powered robot has been launched at a court in China

Beijing’s first artificial intelligence robot for legal services (called Xiaofa) has been launched in a court this month. The robot stands 1.46 metres tall and speaks in a child’s voice to help ease the tension of the people it will encounter. The robot can explain complex legal jargon in everyday language, move its hands as instructions show up on screen, and guide people to the correct window for different services.
